Abstract
This paper discusses the opportunities and limitations of mass education systems, which are influenced by materialism, modernism, reductionism, and anthropocentrism. While mass education systems provide skills-based education and training, they also reduce cultural diversity. This has consequently led to a fragmented view of oneself and the world, and several global crises. This article explores alternative, decolonial, and southern knowing, living, and being in education. These approaches call for holistic education that can bring unity and connectivity to address global concerns such as knowledge, well-being, justice, democracy, and climate change.
