Philosophy of The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal

Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).

The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal does not charge any author fees.

General Submission Rules

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal. Formatting Requirements

Initial Submission: Submissions should be between 1,000-5,000 words (excluding references) and submitted in a Microsoft Word document. Please include a cover page with your name, school/university, email, and a short bio. Please ensure submissions are free of identifying information within the text for review other than the cover page. Videos and images can be embedded in the manuscript or sent as separate files or links.

Rights for Authors

All materials in The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal are protected by copyright. Authors retain the copyright for their article published in The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal and agree to license their work under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license.

This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

Note: Prior to Volume 5 Issue 2, The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal was free to read but not openly licensed.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the ScholarWorks@BGSU website and/or software agree not to misuse the ScholarWorks@BGSU service or software in any way.

The failure of ScholarWorks@BGSU to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any term of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies remain in full force and effect. These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement between ScholarWorks@BGSU and the Author(s) regarding submission of the Article.
