About This Journal
The journal has its origin in the Michigan Council for the Social Studies launched and the first issue was in the Spring of 2021. In Fall 2025, the journal expanded to include Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin!
The Great Lakes Social Studies Journal features practical and research articles on social studies instructional practices, with a particular focus on inquiry. Articles will feature interactive links, videos, and images to bring the practices and research to life. The editorial board of the journal will continue to publish two issues per year. We encourage classroom teachers to submit. The editorial board is willing to consult with any educator seeking assistance with putting ideas to paper.
