Abstract

As the aging population continues to grow, a significant concern for this demographic is their living arrangements. Many older adults prefer to remain in their own homes after retirement rather than transition to long-term care facilities. However, the desire for independent living, particularly among the very elderly, often leads to social disconnection and the risk of social isolation. Facilitating opportunities for social engagement is essential to maintaining the social well-being of older adults. Research underscores the role of leisure activities in fostering skill development and social interaction. In this study, group-based piano lessons were introduced as a platform for older adults to learn new leisure skills while enhancing socialization.
