Abstract
Abstract: This workshop-style presentation will examine how TAs perform community within first-year writing classrooms. Each presenter will first demonstrate her pedagogical approach to community, culture, and change through narrative examples, then presenters and attendees will work together to create a list of strategies for community-building in first-year writing classrooms.
Narrative: We met in Fall 2017 when we all participated in The Composition Instructors’ Workshop at BGSU, where Annie, Renée, and Madelaine were enrolled as first-year TAs and Kelly was a co-facilitator. Our presentation stems from Kelly’s dissertation research on TAs’ rhetorical embodied performance, for which Annie, Renée, and Madelaine are co-researcher participants.
