CLAUDIA SALAZAR
Writer, Literary Critic, Scholar / Escritora, crítica literaria e investigadora



Born in Lima, Peru, she currently resides in New York City. She studied literature at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru and holds a PhD from NYU.

Her debut novel La sangre de la aurora (2013; Animal de invierno), translated by Elizabeth Bryar as Blood of the Dawn (Deep Vellum), is a thought provoking journey into the ways in which three different women are affected by the horrors of the war between the Peruvian State and Shining Path in the 1980s. It received the Las Americas Narrative Prize in 2014.

She’s the founder and director of PERUFEST, the first Peruvian cinema festival in New York. Several online publications and international anthologies feature her short stories. Her most recent publication is Migrar y otras artes. Escritos fueras de lugar (2024), a collection of chronicles and personal reflections on (migratory) movement, language and identity.
