Master of Arts in English Plan II Graduate Projects
Abstract
Using color-by-number as a common thread, the author of this portfolio explores how teaching can be like painting. As a teacher/artist, she reflects how writing pedagogy informs her teaching, analyzing one unit as a reflection of pedagogical influences. One of the pieces critically examines Extremely Loud and Incredible Close through theories of Nietzsche and Baudelaire. The final two pieces provide teaching units. The first aids students in developing persuasive style by examining different grammatical choices. The second uses poetry and photography to create multimodal compositions about important places.
