Abstract

Through the lens of Avon Publications we will look at the evolution of queer literature from pulp fiction tragedies to modern queer romance and examine the changes over time. Using the context of Avon’s history as a publisher of gay pulp fiction and its modern catalog presence of queer romance we will examine the shift from pulp fiction to modern romance and its affects on how queer characters and romance was represented in the genre and how the early romances differ from their current catalog? What gender identities and sexual orientations currently represented by the catalog show shifts in mainstream publishing of queer romance? Keywords
