Abstract
Beau Bothwell’s conversation with Ahmad Tofiq moves from the violinist’s musical upbringing in the Kurdistan region of Iraq to his performance and teaching in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He describes his experience learning at a classically-oriented music institute, the relationship between learning Western classical and Middle Eastern styles, his move to the United States, finding community, and projects that include his Bahar Ensemble and Orchestra Rouh.
