Teaching Abstract Thinking in Literature to Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Abstract
This project explores the background of and future for teaching abstract thinking in literature to students on the autism spectrum. Its findings are a composite of theories, studies, methods and approaches through scholastic research, as well as experiences and advice of parents. I conclude that there is no easy answer to this and reiterate the point that valuing students' unique identities is the most effective instructional strategy for this and all other populations.
