Abstract
Every year during the months of August-October, the Ohio Renaissance Festival takes place in Haverysburg Ohio. Here, happy fair goers eat, drink, and maker merry in some of the most unique and truly entertaining ways. My project is a short documentary about the Ohio Renaissance Festival and the people who are involved in putting it on year after year. This documentary consists of five interviews with individuals involved in the festival both on the administrative lever and the performance. We get to explore the festival through their eyes and learn what makes this fair a worthwhile experience for one and all. It explores an underrepresented subculture and clears up misconceptions of Renaissance Fairs being “only for nerds”. Join me as I take a look at this unique entertainment experience and the people who make it happen.
In the accompanying paper, I reflect on the experience of self producing, filming, and editing this short documentary while going into detail about the trials and tribulations that accompanied this endeavor. The film itself can be viewed, if not here, then on YouTube and can be accesed through the following link. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEfbK2KOdio). Renaissance Festivals have been a major part of my life growing up and this documentary is meant to pay homage to this and other such events and maybe entice someone out there to drink and be merry at one of these spectacular affairs.
