January 24, 2024: Best Practice: A Lewinian OD Framework
Files
Description
Gilmore Crosby is one of the foremost scholars on Lewinian social science, with an emphasis on its practical application in addressing social issues, such as prejudice and race relations. The importance of democratic leadership, the social construction of reality, and the role of dialogue in organizations were discussed. Towards the end, there was a conversation about the history and impact of Lewinian OD in Japan.
Kurt Lewin is in many ways the originator of the organization development profession. Gilmore Crosby has authored books and articles about Lewin, and recently organized Lewin’s theories into a framework for new and experienced OD practitioners alike.
Take Lewin’s lessons from this framework and apply them to influencing change whether inside or outside of organizations.
Lewin’s social science aimed to understand, explain, and influence social phenomena large and small, from individual behavior to the rise of authoritarianism in pre-WWII Germany, and the successful reconstruction of Germany following the second world war. Gilmore Crosby has applied Lewin’s theories in his own OD career since 1984, as did his father Robert beginning in 1953.
