Description

The "Thing" character in The Addams Family is the ultimate "anachronistic appendage" to its masters. The "servant’s hand" is literally taken to the extreme in the television shows and films based on the work of Charles Addams. How should we/do we respond to this literal convention? What was the artist’s intent? How has the character evolved over time and what does that tell us about our perception of domestic workers in society? These questions will be examined as part of the presentation.
