Using Environmental Literature as a Force for Socio-environmental Change: A portfolio

Abstract

This portfolio features independent research studies within the environmental humanities over Madison Stump's four years in the BGSU Honors College. It features her changes in thinking about environmental literature and the use of environmental literature to create socio-environmental change through conversations about environmental protection and degradation. The final part of the portfolio, developing and co-teaching HNRS 4000: Harry Potter and the Environment in spring 2020, demonstrates the ultimate goal of Madison's view of environmental humanities; inspire conversations about the environment and shifts in perspectives about the environment in literature that is not traditionally environmental in nature.
